Residents invited to hear Chief Kelly LaRocca speak ahead of Truth and Reconciliation Day

SCUGOG: The public is invited to hear from, Mississaugas of Scugog Island Chief, Kelly LaRocca during a National Truth and Reconciliation Day event, on Thursday, September 29th.
The event will be held at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. As well as hearing the local Chief speak about issues facing Indigenous people, the event will also feature a musical performance by Gary LaRocca.
“Following the presentation, those in attendance will also have an opportunity for question and answer with Chief LaRocca as well as [an opportunity to] enjoy light refreshments,” a Township of Scugog press release added.
The event is free to attend, though people are asked to pre-register online, on Eventbrite. For more information, such as how to register, visit www.scugog.ca.
“I encourage the community to attend this important talk. It is an opportunity for us all to learn more about the issues impacting Indigenous Peoples in Scugog and across the country,” Scugog Mayor Bobbie Drew said, in a statement.
