DURHAM: Hundreds of cyclists will take to the roads in Durham Region August 18th marking the 11th Anniversary of the Ride4UnitedWay. The event starts and finishes at the Durham District School Board Office in Whitby. This cycling event benefits the United Way in Durham Region which supports over 25 local charities; from food banks and shelters to programs for children and seniors.
The ride offers four course distances from a 25 kilometre Community Course to a 160 kilometre route for avid cyclists. Both the 60 kilometre and 160 kilometre routes will travel through Port Perry. Timed sections are available for more competitive riders, and a Gravel route of approximately 115 km. There is something for cyclists of every level. Marshals, rest stops, mechanical and medical support, lunch, showers and massages add to your experience of a great day on the bike.
The ride continues to be a success because of the support of over 70 corporate and community volunteers; strong partnerships with local cycling shops and clubs as well as The Region of Durham and its cycling tourism initiatives.
More than just a fundraising event, the Ride4UnitedWay promotes the importance of physical fitness, the benefits of living, working and playing in Durham Region and the community spirit we need to continue to make this such a great place to live.
QUOTE
“Cycling is a great recreational and fitness pursuit. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors and to see our community. For the last 11 years we’ve put together courses that take us by some beautiful little towns, farmland and vistas in Durham Region. Our participants enjoy knowing that their efforts are building a better community for everyone. “Pedal for Possibility” is the theme of the ride and it ties in with the core of the United Way contribution in Durham “Together, we are possibility”. We hope cyclists of all abilities and experience will come out and enjoy a “great day on the bike” with us and help us celebrate reaching the 11th anniversary milestone.”
Robert Howard – VP External Relations & Chief Possibility Officer, United Way Durham Region
