New General Manager in the Bear Den

DARRYL KNIGHT, Uxbridge Bruins Communications Director

UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce, Jay Simmonds has accepted a promotion to general manager.

Born and raised in Uxbridge, Simmonds played three seasons with the Bruins before rejoining the team last year as Assistant General Manager. He has spent the past year apprenticing under former general manager Mark Savery, who recently accepted a position with the Elliot Lake Red Wings.

“Jay is a bright young man with an excellent mind for the game. Over the past year, he has shown great pride, commitment and enthusiasm for the management side of hockey and continuing to build the Uxbridge Bruins into one of the premier organizations in the PJHL [Provincial Junior Hockey League],” said team president Cam Stewart.

As a former Bruins player, Simmonds noted a growing enthusiasm for PJHL hockey among players. He is excited to continue working on bringing a Schmalz Cup provincial championship to Uxbridge.

“I am extremely grateful for all of Mark’s support over the past year and his mentorship as I made the transition from playing to managing. I’m looking forward to the opportunities we have, to continue to build on the success the team has had in recent years,” added Simmonds.

Graduating to the general manager position, Jay joins head coach Mike Spataro and assistant coaches Trevor Cox and Jamie Showers, all former Bruins players, now involved in the team’s hockey operations department. “Playing for the Bruins has given us great perspective. Not only in what we need to do as a team to win and be successful, but also what a Schmalz Cup championship would mean to this community. We all want to reward our fans, with a championship, for their passion, support and commitment over the past 45 seasons,” Simmonds noted.
