DAN CEARNS The Standard

SCUGOG: The Port Perry Lumberjacks opened the month of February with three straight losses, in mostly tight games.

On Thursday, February 1st, the team visited Clarington, to take on the Orr division’s top team, the Clarington Eagles.

The game remained scoreless until late in the first period. Nearly 17 minutes into the period, the Eagles scored the first goal of the game.

The game would remain with that 1-0 deficit until the third period. One minute and a half into that frame, the Eagles scored again, making it a 2-0 game. About eight minutes later, Cameron Marshall put the puck in the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, that would be as close as the Lumberjacks would get, losing the game by a 2-1 score.

Two nights later, on Saturday, February 3rd, the Lumberjacks visited Little Britain to take on the Merchants.

Fifteen and a half minutes into the first period, the Merchants scored a power play goal, putting the Lumberjacks behind 1-0.

Over three and a half minutes into the second period, Kyle Robillard scored, to tie the game 1-1. Then, the Merchants would strike late in the period, and the Lumberjacks once again trailed by a goal.

Over four minutes into the third period, the Merchants would widen the deficit to 3-1, with another power play goal. Nearly eight minutes in, Liam Goreski scored, to make it a 3-2 game. However, the Lumberjacks were unable to find the tying goal and lost 3-2.

The Lumberjacks were right back in action the next day, Sunday, February 4th, as they hosted the Lakefield Chiefs at Scugog Arena.

Early in the game, the Lumberjacks battled an intense and dominant forecheck from the Chiefs. Just over three minutes in, the Chiefs would score the only goal of the period, with a between the legs highlight reel style goal.

Over two and a half minutes into the second period, the Chiefs widened the deficit to 2-0, with a goal. Over two minutes later though, the Lumberjacks would get the deficit cut in half, with a goal from Charlie Paton. Past, eight and a half minutes in, the Chiefs would score to get their two-goal lead back.

The Chiefs would add two goals in the third period, and the Lumberjacks lost that game 5-1.
