KAWARTHA LAKES: The Ontario Liberals have nominated Donald McBey as their candidate in the Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock riding for this year’s provincial election.
Mr. McBey has served as the Vice-Chair of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
In a statement, Ontario Liberal Party leader Steven Del Duca described Mr. McBey as a “proven fighter who has a passion for making his community a better place for everyone.”
At a nomination meeting held on Tuesday, April 19th, Mr. McBey explained he had made the decision to put his name into the mix as “it was time to do something a little bit different.”
“I hemmed and hawed, and I tossed [the idea] around for a while. Afterwards, I thought it’s been some time since I put my name forward for anything,” he said.
He feels excited about the Liberals’ chances in this upcoming election.
“I really believe that we have a motivated and dedicated team,” he stated. “We can be the rational party of empowerment.”
He added he hopes the party can bring back “some predictability” to people’s lives with better housing affordability, and less disruptions to the Ontario economy. He called himself a “pragmatic, centrist politician” who is “willing to hear both sides, willing to take all sorts of opinions into account.”
