All you need to know about the 2022 Scugog Municipal Election

COURTNEY McCLURE,

The Standard

SCUGOG: Every four years, there’s a municipal election within the Township of Scugog, to elect (or re-elect) a Mayor and members of council. An election also takes place for school board trustees at this time.

This year, the municipal election will be happening on October 24th, 2022.

Along with the actual election day, there are a few key dates Scugog Township residents should keep in mind.

Nominations for this year’s election opened in May. Interested persons can submit nominations up until August 19th, before 2 p.m., at the Township of Scugog Office, located at 181 Perry Street in Port Perry.

Election signs can be displayed starting in the autumn of 2022 (September to October) and must be removed before 12 a.m. on October 27th.

Make sure you are on the voters’ list. You can add yourself to the Preliminary List of Electors through voterlookup.ca, but you must do it before August 12th. If you are on the Provincial or Federal voters’ lists that does not mean you are automatically on the Municipal Voters’ List.

If you wait until after August 12th, 2022, you can complete the Application to Amend Voters’ List Form – EL15, available on the Township’s website, and submit it in person to the Scugog Municipal Office.

If you own your property, within the Township of Scugog, are a Canadian citizen and are over the age of 18, you may be eligible for this year’s municipal election.

For more information, contact the Township of Scugog. You can contact them via email or over the phone, at 905-985-7346.

It’s also important to know who your candidates are and how their decisions affect you. Some Scugog residents may not know which ward they are in and which electoral candidates represent them.

If you visit the Township of Scugog website, you can find a list of candidates who have already filed for nomination.

If you’re unsure of what Ward you live in, you will have to visit the Township of Scugog website and find the 2022 Election page. From there, you will see a few options available for you to click. Select “Do you know your Ward?” Once you’ve selected this option, a map will appear on your screen. This map shows the Municipality of Scugog and outlines the four existing Wards. The Wards have also been colour-coded for easy identification. Ward 1 is outlined in blue; Ward 2 is green, Ward 3 is red, Ward 4 is brown, and Ward 5 is yellow.

For more information and a full list of important dates, to remember prior to Election Day, please visit Scugog.ca.
