UXBRIDGE: The Durham Regional Police (DRPS) have charged one suspect with Second Degree Murder, following Durham Region’s first homicide of 2023, in Uxbridge.

According to the local police service, a stabbing occurred on Thursday, January 12th, at about 8:55 a.m., at “a residence on Allbright Road in Uxbridge.”
“Officers arrived and received information that a 66-year-old male had been stabbed, at this residence, by a known suspect. Police located the victim [who had] life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. The victim, John Genereux, age 66, of Uxbridge, succumbed to his injuries, on Monday [January 16th]. The suspect was arrested at the scene,” A DRPS press release explained.
37-year-old Matthew Lavis, of Uxbridge, has been charged with second-degree murder. Police are asking anyone who has further information on this case to contact Detective McDermott of the Major Crime Homicide Unit, at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5411.
