Chalk Lake Springs temporarily closed during Lake Ridge Road construction

NORTH DURHAM: The Regional Municipality of Durham, in cooperation with the City of Pickering, the Town of Whitby, and the townships of Scugog and Uxbridge, is rehabilitating Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23). For public safety, Chalk Lake Springs is temporarily closed during this construction.

Access to the springs is expected to reopen towards the end of July, once construction is substantially completed in the area of Chalk Lake Road in the Township of Uxbridge.

The design of the rehabilitation/reconstruction of Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23), from Myrtle Road (Regional Road 5) to 1.6 kilometres north of Chalk Lake Road, is ongoing. Work includes road resurfacing, partial paved shoulders and culvert replacements. Regional Contract D2022-47.

The Region’s contractor, Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. (GIP Inc.), mobilized the week of April 17th, to complete the remaining work by September 2023.

GIP Inc. will be closing access to Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23), south of Chalk Lake Road to Townline Road, to safely complete the replacement of the storm sewers. Traffic detours will be established, directing traffic from Regional Road 21 (Goodwood Road) to Myrtle Road (Ninth Concession Road), using Brock Road (Regional Road 1). If unfavourable weather occurs, this closure may be extended.

The Region realizes this temporary closure of the springs is disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible.
