I believe, God's love is real, that he wants our full attention and the Bible holds the key to a life that is rich and rewarding.
In my testimony, for my Baptism I wrote, "I experienced God's hand in the midst of my life; from the joy, the disappointments, the sorrow and the suffering, and especially when I was stumbling along the path. During my journey I felt God had never left my side, and I understood this was a big part of my faith walk, but at times I continued to feel bruised and broken inside. It is only through the message of Scripture, in the gospel that we come to experience the transforming power of God's grace in a relationship through Christ." I no longer feel bruised or broken. Whether you're addiction is alcohol, drugs, caffeine or food, God offers help in His word to help you break free.
When anything consumes our attention and replaces God, even the good things can be made bad! Common things like drinking and eating, beyond what we need, especially caffeine, fat, sugar even salt. The Bible encourages us to care for our bodies, and good nutrition is part of that. God cares about man's physical comfort and well being. As shown is Exodus 22:27.
One of my most difficult challenges was to stop drinking caffeinated pop, perhaps that was the first step towards becoming my best self. I would regularly drink a 2 litre bottle of pop, along with lots of coffee, feel euphoric, then the big crash would follow. I repeated this pattern for years, until last December in preparation for my baptism. One of the biggest health promoting principles of scripture is the power given to believers: especially, when you focus on God's word, allowing God to do the work, by His Spirit in you.
We are to glorify God in our body, in whatever we do, eating and drinking, well, is important for staying healthy.
When my husband asked me to, only drink water for the month of May, I laughed at him! My stubborn streak reared it's ugly head, but I accepted his challenge with thoughtful prayer and determination. Everyone knows about the benefits of water, such as eliminating toxins, hydrating your organs, transporting minerals to the cells and helping in all our body's metabolic processes. While my husband had begun this challenge in late April, he had already noticed a difference in his complexion, his bowels, and even his diabetes reading, which had positive results. Research shows adequate water consumption is essential for your body to function properly, to achieve glowing skin, nails, hair, improve bowel functions, and healthy weight loss. You genuinely feel better. Since our brains are mostly water, drinking it helps you think, focus, concentrate and be more alert.
This challenge meant I was to have no milk, no orange juice, no tomato juice, no root beer or ginger-ale, no ice tea, no ice caps, no hot chocolate and NO COFFEE, then I realized no SUGAR.
It was the start of my vacation, and all I wanted to do was to hide my head under the covers. Especially since our holidays had been cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances. My husband was suggesting, perhaps, I could have some milk in my cereal, or have a small black coffee to ease me into this new routine. I wondered if he thought I might strangle him while he slept. But then the true child of God came out and I looked at it from a practical perspective. How much money could I possibly save during the month of May? My estimates do not include Martin, but it equals about $108 in savings. At this point, I never want to drink anything but water and/or milk again. Martin challenged me to put this money aside, then he saw my face and backed away slowly. Wow!
I know, an unhealthy body makes us slow, lethargic, and more prone to injury, and good nutrition is crucial for proper brain function. Research shows drinking plenty of water also helps fight against flu, cancer, and other ailments like heart attacks. All food, is more than a source of energy, it is a blessing from God. Eating the right food contributes to our ability to think clearly and our general quality of life. Food is a gift from God, it is his provision. Perhaps, this is my third step in over all well-being and healing.
1 Corinthians 10:31 says, "So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." This is always for your overall good.
Keeping active and eating a healthy balanced diet can also help you maintain a healthy weight. This includes: fruit, vegetables, whole grains, meat and dairy. It is important to have a good variety of foods, leaving less room for foods high in fat and sugar. When the body is functioning at it's best, you will feel great and can be your best self. I feel renewed, and invigorated, plus the scales are tipping in my favour.
Did you know, drinking hot water can also provide your body with the water it needs to replenish fluids? Hot water can improve digestion, relieve congestion, and help you feel more relaxed. Drinking hot water, first thing in the morning or right before bed, is optimal for best health results. Together, with exercise and eating a healthy diet in the right proportions, water can lower your cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and decrease your risk of diabetes. Still, water is so beneficial; so easy, so free yet so easily overlooked. To make it more interesting you can add lemon, mint, even cucumbers or strawberries.
We are truly blessed living in Canada. Many Canadians take clean drinking water for granted. While people living in third world countries are suffering from a water crisis that has become a major global health issue. We know millions of people do not have access to potable water. The lack of available clean water contributes to numerous waterborne and water washed diseases, causing the death of millions of people annually. These are diseases resulting from contact with or consumption of infected water, Diseases such as malaria, typhoid, cholera, from E. coli, Giardia, amoebas and other parasites. But the greatest disease caused by unsafe drinking water is diarrhea. Draining the system, for example, from all of the needful liquids used for healthy immune and organ function, the capacity to deliver electrolytes, and of necessary minerals vital for health. I read, more than 840,000 people die each year from water-related diseases.
In addition, access to clean water gives communities more time to grow food, earn wages, allowing many children/women to go to school/work, because there is no further need to travel miles to fetch water.
Clean water is the fastest way to change a persons life and the lives of people across the continent or even the world. Let's support a clean water project through some mission, at home or abroad.
