KAWARTHA LAKES: The Pickering Panthers scored early and often in preseason action Sunday afternoon, defeating the Lindsay Muskies by a count of 7-3.
The Panthers came out flying, scoring twice in the first four minutes. Anthony Stavrou scored from Mitchell Degray at 1:08, then Degray and Lucas Rogers set up a power play goal by Rizian Mansurov at 3:12, to put the home team up 2-0.
In the second period, there was no scoring until the 12:28 mark, but then the goals came quickly. Brendan Charlton put the Cats up 3-0 on a goal, assisted by Ryan Israel and Rogers.
The Muskies got back into the game with a couple of quick power play goals of their own.
Erich Roeder scored at 14:40 from Ethan Ramsden, then Matt Mcnamara put the Muskies within one at 15:38, with an unassisted goal.
Just over three minutes later though, Stavrou netted his second of the game, on a power play from Cameron Binairis and Adam Wheaton.
The Panthers put the game out of reach, very quickly in the third. Daniel Lowe scored from Davis Teigen-Katsumi at 48 seconds, then Elijah Gonsalves scored a quick pair at 4:12 and 5:55. Assists went to Mansurov on the first goal, and Stavrou and Orie Mainolfi on the second. Matt Wilbee got the final goal of the game at 17:30 from Joe Campbell.

The next preseason action for the Muskies is Friday night, when they host the Aurora Tigers.
