Townley Wins Colts Provincials
This past weekend, the Meaford Curling Club hosted the Mens Provincial Colts Championship and at the end of the event, a local curler was crowned its champion.
Spencer Townley curls at the Uxbridge Curling Club on Monday nights and also throws second stones for his competitive team, based out of the Scorboro Golf & Country Club, skipped by Chris Can Huyse, with Jason March at vice and Scott March at lead.
The team sailed through the round-robin, with a 6-1 record, their only blemish being a 7-6 defeat at the hands of Len Rominger from Welland. With four teams tied at 4-3 records, Trevor Feil from Elora prevailed in the two tie-breaker games on Sunday, to meet Team Van Huyse in the final late Sunday afternoon.
In what turned out be a low scoring game, Van Huyse took their two in the first end, Feil responded with two in the fourth end to tie the game. After another blank end in the fifth, Van Huyse would take two in the sixth end, keeping things wide open, to win 4-2.
Congratulations Spencer and Team Van Huyse, on your accomplishment and winning a CurlOn banner.
New Uxbridge Bantam Event a Great Success
The Uxbridge Curling Club hosted their inaugural Bantam bonspiel on Sunday. A total of eight teams from Parry Sound, Oshawa, Uxbridge, Port Perry and Minden took part in the event.
In this recreational event, each team played three, six-end games. Teams were treated to a delicious lunch, and everyone went home with a prize.
The Evan Roitz team from Minden won all three of their games and took home first place. Uxbridge resident Aidan Bowers plays on the team.
A special thank you goes to: Sandra Bowers, for coordinating the event; and volunteers Darryl Stevenson, Brad Roberts, Laura Anderson, Linda and Kathy Green, who helped make the day a success for the young curlers.
We look forward to seeing this as an annual stop on the curling calendar.
