Special to The Standard
NORTH DURHAM: After fall and spring tryouts, months of training in gyms, and getting some practice in, on the grass outdoors, regular season league play is finally here. The 2017 DRSL schedule, for the North Durham United Football Club competitive rep teams, kicked off this past Monday, with the U14G team taking on Peterborough.
The 15G open their season against Cavan, and the U13G travel to Peterborough for their debut.
A simultaneous double-header is scheduled for Wednesday, at the Herrema fields in Uxbridge, with the U13B taking on the Oshawa Kicks, and the always tenacious U17B going up against Pickering.
The U18G, coached by soccer volunteer legend Grant Oliver, will begin their Huronia Soccer League season on June 1st, at the Police Shed against Newmarket. This venue challenges Herrema for the most mosquitoes on any given night, so don't forget the bug spray.
This Saturday, May 27th, the Scugog Soccer Fields are hosting NDUFC's Picture Day. Events kick off at around 1:30 p.m., and run until 7 p.m. or so. Besides team and individual photos being taken, the day is filled with fun competitions, prize giveaways, ball jugglers, scrimmages, bbq, and a group photo of all the members of the soccer club. It is always a fun day, with lots of kids and parents having fun, and the event is open to anyone who would like to come by and take in the great atmosphere.
In case of inclement weather on Saturday, the event will take place the next day, Sunday, May 28th.
A big thanks, to all the student volunteers who will be helping out throughout the day, especially Martina Magnante, who will be in charge.
It was a weird night for TFC in New York, last Friday, as they came away with a 1-1 draw. The Reds missed a penalty and a few late chances to secure the 3 points, but still remain with only one loss for the whole season. Send me you info, at email@example.com.
