SCUGOG: The Port Perry MoJacks were defeated twice by their rival, the Uxbridge Bruins, in a home-and-home series over the weekend.
The MoJacks were defeated in a tight game 5-4, on Friday, February 1st in Uxbridge.
Port Perry had a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play, with Spencer Robinson and Derek Risebrough as the goal scorers.
Then, a little over five and a half minutes into the second frame, Jeff Gauld scored, extending Port Perry’s lead to 3-0. But the Bruins struck twine twice late in the period, and the MoJacks had a slim 3-2 lead after the buzzer.
Just over two minutes into the third period, former MoJack Simon Feig scored for the Bruins, to tie the game 3-3. The MoJacks got their lead back, almost 12 and a half minutes in, as Carter Thornton scored a short handed goal, making it a 4-3 game. But, the Bruins scored twice late in the period and won the game 5-4.
The MoJacks looked for redemption when they returned home to Scugog Arena, on Sunday, February 3rd, against those same Bruins.
It didn’t start off well for the MoJacks, as Uxbridge scored twice in the first period, giving them a 2-0 lead.
But, the MoJacks came out on the ice in the second period motivated to get the game back under control. A bit over two and a half minutes in, after a Carter Thornton shot was stopped, Noah Donaghy found the puck and scored, cutting Uxbridge’s lead to 2-1. With a little over four and a half minutes remaining on the second period clock, Risebrough tied the game, by pouncing on a Jeff Gauld rebound and scoring.
However, the comeback was for naught, as the Bruins scored twice in the third and the MoJacks fell by a score of 4-2.
Despite the recent losses, MoJacks head coach Tom Boyle complimented his team’s play following the game on Sunday.
“The boys played hard both games. Both games could’ve gone either way. This afternoon in the third period, we had a couple brain farts and the puck ended up in the back of our net,” he said.
The MoJacks will finish their regular season schedule this weekend.
They face the Georgina Ice in Georgina, on Friday, February 8th, at 7:30 p.m.
Their last game of the season will be at Scugog Arena, on Sunday, February 10th, against the Little Britain Merchants, at 2:25 p.m.
They will then get ready for the playoffs.
