LORILEE MCKELVIE Special to The Standard
The Port Perry Angels Mite team consists of 14 girls, 4 returning players and 10 new girls. They have been training throughout the winter season and were eager and nervous for their first game! They took to the field at Carolyn Best, on Wednesday May 22nd. The 3 inning game was full of thrills and excitement, and ended with a win over the Aurora Diggers 8-2.
The girls came out swinging which resulted in 6 hits. Sam, Lauren, Addison, and Dakota all got their first hits, and Brie went 2 for 2 at the plate. On the mound, two new pitchers made their debut. Brie pitched the first and second innings, and Madison pitched the third. They did great; giving up only 2 runs, they got a combined 9 strikeouts and a no hitter! Lauren did an awesome job behind the plate catching for our pitchers.
Thanks to coaches Josh, Wendy, Pippa, and Alyssa for their guidance and support in preparing the girls for the season.
With a win under the belt, the Mites look forward to their next game in Coburg, on Tuesday May 28th, followed up by their first tournament, on Saturday June 1st. The Mites will be back home at Carolyn Best, on Wednesday June 5th, at 6:30pm. Let’s play ball!
