The Port Perry Curling Club hosted their annual end-of-season mixed bonspiel this past weekend. The two day event, sponsored by Port Perry Auto Glass (Glenn and Kelly Evans) and State Farm Insurance (Kevin Spohn), is always a highlight on the club’s bonspiel calendar.
Sixteen teams descended on the club Friday night for one game, and then played three games on Sunday. When it was all said and done, the Bob Winters foursome from the Whitby Curling Club was crowned the overall champion, with four wins.
Curling with Bob, was wife Liz Winters, and Fred and Sue Layton. Port Perry’s Brian Murphy stepped in to spare for Fred, after an injury forced him out of the competition early in the weekend.
Port Perry’s team of John Butler, Alice Beatty, Dean Haugen, and Louise Haugen finished in second place, coming one win short of defending their title.
Special thank you to drawmaster, Paul Coveart, and VOS Independent for contributing meat prizes. It was another great weekend of entertainment, food and camaraderie. A great way to end the season for most. Thanks again to Glenn and Kelly Evans and Valerie and Kevin Spohn for supporting this event for over 20 years.
