KAWARTHA: The Lindsay Muskies chase for the final playoff spot in the North East Division was dealt a temporary blow Sunday afternoon, when the Fish were defeated by the Dukes in wellington by a score of 8-2.
Brayden Stortz got Wellington on the board at 11:46 of the first, on a goal from Nic Mucci and Bryson Michel. The score would remain 1-0 till the 30 second mark of the second period, when Stortz would score again from Brody Morris and Mucci. Just over a minute later, Ryan Smith would close the gap for Lindsay with his 9th of the year, from Noah Dollo and Russell Nowry, but Wellington then exploded for four goals in just over five minutes.
Stortz completed his hat trick at 2:42, from Mitchel Martan and Colin Doyle. Then, at 3:09 it was Mitchell Mendonca from Rory Milne. Mucci scored from Doyle and Carter Allen at 4:04, then Milne scored from Austin Labelle and Mendonca at 7:24.
The Dukes didn’t let up in the third, going up by a score of 7-1 at 3:18, when Mucci scored from Stortz and Doyle, and Evan Foley scored Wellington’s final goal of the day at 11:18, from Martan and Morris. With 2:10 left to play in the period, Noah Dollo scored his 11th goal of the season for Lindsay, from Dayton Kent and Cam Lamport to make the 8-2 final.
The Muskies won’t have much time to lick their wounds, as they are taking part in a showcase in Trenton midweek. They will face the Pickering Panthers on Tuesday morning in Trenton, then play the home town Golden Hawks Wednesday night, before returning home to host Cobourg on Friday.
