Special to The Standard
LINDSAY: The Lindsay Muskies were in action against the number four ranked team in the nation, and the Cobourg Cougars were quick to show why they are ranked so high, as they outshot the Muskies by a count of 55-22, on their way to a 7-2 win.
The Cougars came out hard, hemming the Muskies in their own zone, for extended periods of time. Rock Boynton had the start in goal for the Muskies, and early on he kept the scoreboard blank with a nice glove save on a Cobourg two on one. He couldn’t deny them forever though, and at 12:49, Theo Lewis was left all alone in front to open the scoring from Matthew Busby. At 14:08 Brennan Roy snapped one high over Boynton’s glove hand. At 16:13 it was Mac Lowry from Lewis and Quinn Syrydiuk, then just thirteen seconds later it was Busby from Hunter Atchison, to make it 4-0 in less than a four minute span. With just 35 seconds left on the clock in the first, Noah Dollo was able to beat Stefano Durante with a nice deke, to get Lindsay on the board from Cole Robbins and Braeden Kublick.
If the Muskies were to have any chance at all to get back into this one, they needed to win the second period, and the play was pretty even for a while, but at 13:11 Busby’s second of the game from Atchison made it 5-1. At 18:02 the Cougars would strike again on a power play. That goal went to Atchison, from Josh Maguirem and Lowry.
In the third period, a Muskies short handed goal made it 6-2, when Owen Barnett and Kyle Diamond sent Brock Traill in on a breakaway. Traill made a nice move to score his fourth goal of the year, but at 17:26 Ryan Casselman finished a nice passing play from Matthew Carroll to round out the scoring.
The next action for the Muskies is Saturday night in Orangeville.
