LINDSAY: Cam Robinson’s second goal of the game turned out to be the game winner, while Cam Lamport picked up four assists, as the Lindsay Muskies defeated the Aurora Tigers Saturday night, by a score of 5-4. The win was the second in a row for the team this weekend.
The first period started off with a frenzy of goals. Robinson got Lindsay on the board with an early power play goal, from Lamport and Owen Barnett at the 2:10 mark, but, in a span of just over two minutes, the Tigers had roared back to take a lead. Eric Holland scored at 3:53, from Luca Esposito and Mel Melconian, to tie the game at 1-1, then James Thomson put the Tigers up by a goal at 4:39, from Tyler Davis and Steven McaLean. Lindsay defenceman Cole Robbins picked up his second goal in as many games at 9:36, from Lamport and Brock Traill, to tie the game back up at 2-2 before the end of the first.
In the second period, rookie Ryan Smith put Lindsay back on top with an unassisted goal, but again the Tigers would score two to retake the lead. Brandon MacKinnon tied the game at 6:56, from Jacob Kostopoulos and Matthew Tozer. then Holland’s second of the game put Aurora up 4-3, on a power play at 11:42, from Louis Vlahalis and Esposito. Again though, the Muskies would even things up before the period ended, when Owen Barnett scored a power play goal from Lamport and Traill, with just 27 seconds remaining in the period.
The third period saw only one goal. It came off the stick of Robinson at the 55 second mark, again, assisted by Lamport. That goal stood up as the winner, as Sean Green and the Muskie squad were able to shut down the Tigers the rest of the way.
The win improves Lindsay’s record to 10 wins, 18 regulation losses, and 3 overtime losses, and leaves them just two points behind the Newmarket Hurricanes, for the last playoff spot in the division.
The next action for the Muskies is Friday night, when they host the Whitby Fury.
