MARLO STANFIELD Special to The Standard
UXBRIDGE: In front of a raucous Family Day crowd, the Uxbridge Bruins stormed out of the gates in Game 1 of the PJHL Orr Division quarterfinals with a 6-1 victory over the Port Perry MoJacks.
The holiday allowed the Battle of North Durham to begin with a rare matinee match-up at the Bear Den after the MoJacks rolled to a 5-1 win on the road, in Game 3 of their preliminary round series against the Clarington Eagles.
The extra rest served the Bruins well in the early stages of the game, with Daniel Giorgio and Jackson Savery pushing the Bruins to a 2-0 advantage less than 10 minutes into the game.
Almost five minutes into the second period, Matt Hunter rushed from behind the Uxbridge goal, powering the length of the ice to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.
Josh Cammalleri converted a pass from Justin Bennett to push Uxbridge’s lead to 4-0 until former Bruins Noah Donaghy put Port Perry on the scoreboard late in the frame.
Less than a minute into the third period, Aiden Reilly scored a powerplay goal for the Bruins, with Savery later rounding out the scoring as the Bruins took the opening game in a rout.
