UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Bruins were able to bounce back, from a Friday night loss against Lakefield at the Bear Den, to blank the Merchants in Little Britain 5-0 on Saturday, November 25th.
Jake Joosten turned aside every shot fired his way against Little Britain to earn his first shutout of the season, and the fourth of his career.
Kieran Beaudoin had the lone goal of the first period, with Michael Rennie and Simon Feig pushing the Uxbridge advantage to 3-0, through 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, the Bruins continued to stifle the Merchants’ offence to preserve Joosten’s clean sheet, with Cameron Moffitt and Daniel Wu rounding out the scoring.
The previous evening, the Bruins saw their recent five-game winning streak snapped by the, Orr Division-leading, Lakefield Chiefs.
Sensational saves by Ryan McConkey early in the match kept the game competitive, even as the Chiefs slipped two pucks into the Bruins’ net, before Beaudoin could draw Uxbridge to within a goal late in the opening frame.
Both sides started the second period with enthusiasm, after an extended intermission that featured the future stars of the Uxbridge Timbits program. Shortly after the Chiefs restored their two-goal lead, less than a minute into the action, Beaudoin netted a breakaway goal to once again bring the Bruins to within one.
However, the Chiefs would take advantage of power play opportunities as the middle frame wore on, scoring three times with the man-advantage, before the horn sounded to end the middle stanza, and in the process, building a 6-2 lead over the Bruins.
The third period saw goals from Cristian Giorgio and Noah Donaghy draw the Bruins closer, but their comeback would ultimately come up short.
The Bruins are back in action on Thursday night, as they kick off a busy weekend with a trip to Bowmanville, to tangle with the Clarington Eagles at 7:20 p.m.
The next game on home ice at the Bear Den is set for Friday, December 1st at 7:45 p.m., with the Port Perry MoJacks in town for a Battle of North Durham.
A trip to Lakefield, on Tuesday, December 4th for a 7:30 p.m. tilt with the Chiefs, wraps up a busy stretch for the Bruins.
On Friday, Dec. 8th, the Bruins will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss, in support of the Uxbridge Toy Drive, when they host the Merchants. Fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal, wrapped in a plastic bag, to be tossed onto the ice after the Bruins score their first goal of the game.
