Special to The Standard
The Lindsay Muskies had a huge third period as they upset the Markham Royals by a score of 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Markham.
Dayton Kent’s 5th goal of the season got the Muskies on the board on a power play, at 5:32 from Mike Cimini and Matt McNamara, but just before the first period ended the Royals evened things up. Laine McKay scored, from William Sirman and Lucas Condotta, with just one second left on the clock.
In the second period Markham cranked up the pressure, outshooting the Muskies by a 16-8 count, but could only manage one goal. That goal came from Sirman on a power play, at 17:57 from Josh Hardiman and Brett Ouderkirk.
In the third the Muskies came to life, scoring a pair of quick goals to retake the lead. Brock Traill scored his 10th of the year, from Cam Lamport and Owen Barnett at 6:05, then, just over a minute later, Cody McNabb’s first goal of the season at 7:10, from Ryan Smith and Ethan Ramsden, made the score 3-2. At 13:55, Adriano Leone tied the game at 3-3, from Zack Grzelewski and Condotta. Undaunted though, the Muskies kept coming, and at 15:34 Kyle Diamond netted what would be the winning goal. The goal was Diamond's 6th of the season, and was assisted by Ramsden and Cole Robbins.
The win improves the Muskies record to 11 wins, 19 regulation losses, and 3 overtime losses, keeping them just two points behind Newmarket for the final playoff spot.
The next action for Lindsay is Monday night in Cobourg.
