Finally got the grass cut, but the lawn was very wet in a couple of places. A little more sun would be nice to dry things up. The orioles, rose-breasted grosbeaks and hummingbirds are back so spring is on the way!
At the Horticultural Group Wednesday evening there were some beautiful displays of spring flowers and even a few veggies. The speaker talked about the science of growing plants by the moon. Everything old is new again!
On Thursday afternoon the Sandford U.C.W. held their meeting. After worship period, Carolyn Hicken spoke about several female composers and the hymns they wrote over many years, and we sang these hymns. Big thanks to Carol Gibson for playing piano for us.
Friday evening was the second “Friday at the Foster”; the third will feature a new performer called Shaman Ayerhart with vocals and county music, 7:30 p.m. If you bring a new patron, your name will be entered in a draw for the book “Jewel of the Hill”.
We missed the music but traded it for an evening with the Durham 4H kids, as we did a historic tour of the village of Epsom. It is interesting to find that so many of the people who lived there at one time or another were related, and inter-related to some of us, and that many of the kids were actually related to one another, even at a distance.
Saturday was a busy day in the township. At the museum we viewed the fruits of our labour in the fall, when a group of volunteers planted 150 tulips, in the shape of the flag. Although you must use your imagination to see it, it is a spot of bright colour in the yard. Most members of council were on hand for the ribbon cutting, with grass shears, before moving on down the hill to the fire hall, where the mayor had to give a second speech and a second ribbon cutting!
There was a wonderful crowd at the fire hall with lots to see in this very modern but functional building, with the latest firefighting and office equipment, and comfortable seating. Molly the fire dog was my favourite!
