Besides dodging rain storms, it was a busy week, but still no better for our farmers, and there is nothing we can really do about it.
Best wishes to Ed and Cathy Ellig who recently celebrated their 51st anniversary, and to well-known Eulah Shier, who celebrated her 98th birthday. Big congratulations also to Grace Risebrough who graduated from Scott Central Grade 8, and to all the others who graduated at their respective levels.
Tuesday evening our Sandford U.C. council met, to affirm our new search process and make sure all was lined up for the summer, when we join with Zephyr during July, at alternate churches. Next Sunday will be a Sandford at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
On Wednesday I traveled with seven sorority sisters to Port Hope, where we lunched and thoroughly enjoyed the musical My Fair Lady, an amazing production.
This was followed on Thursday by lunch out at Wooden Sticks, by ten of our Sandford ladies, to end the season for U.C.W. We meet again in September, when we will learn about prayer shawls.
There was a very large crowd at St. Paul’s Leaskdale, on the occasion of Fred and Mary Catherwood’s 50th anniversary. It was quite a reunion of old friends, relatives and semi-relatives. Later in the day, I enjoyed a visit with my great-niece and two great-great nieces, up from Niagara Falls for the weekend.
Sunday was another of those bitter-sweet days, the final service for Rev. Debbie, as well as the welcoming of five new, formerly adherents, but now formally members, to the churches. It was a joint service at Zephyr. There was also a handing over of the symbols of the church, that had been given to Debbie when she first arrived. Gifts were presented to each of the new members and gifts were also given to Rev. Debbie from each church, from the Charge and from the U.C.W. Even the kids received gifts from Debbie. The atmosphere inside was much like outside, with the rain, as there were tears! Melinda sang a beautiful rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer”.
Later in the afternoon the annual cemetery decoration service took place, and due to weather uncertainty, it was held at the church with Rev. Debbie also doing the honours. There were a number of visitors, but mostly current Sandford people. Next week the Zephyr Zion Decoration will be held at 2:30 p.m.
Lots to do July 1st. Strawberry/salad supper at Utica 5 to 7 p.m. To get in the mood, an all-Canadian cast will perform at Foster Friday night: Aboriginal Raven, Celtic Brian O’Sullivan, and French Marie-Lynn. The event starts at 7:30 p.m.
