The wind and the rain late Sunday afternoon pruned leaves and dead limbs off trees and put out hydro for eleven to twelve hours in Greenbank, flattened the old barn, formerly H. Hill's, south of Highway. 12 and 47 and toppled four trees at the corner of 47/12 as well. Clean up and hydro crews have much work ahead of them.
Greenbank Public School was well represented at the Lisa Carlson Run, with sisters Danica and Caidance Mantifel, each placing first. Congratulations girls, and all who participated.
Breakfast With Santa and the Halloween Dance are both sold out.
This Saturday, October 21st, at 7:30 p.m. is the Greenbank Church Talent Auction fundraiser, at the church with auctioneer Carl Phoenix. Viewing is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Baking, a queen size quilt, raspberry jam, and mystery basket high tea for four, are a few items up for grabs. Come and enjoy a fun evening in support of the church. Donations for the event are to be brought from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, via the Sunday School entrance, for committee set up.
On October 22nd, at 12:30 p.m., lower hall, at Greenbank church is a joint congregational meeting, regarding search for minister.
On October 24th, at 7:30 p.m., the Official Board of both churches meets at Greenbank Church.
Please note the time change of this event: October 29th, 10 a.m. is Greenbank Church's 121st Anniversary with Rev. Parker and guest speaker Gordon Taylor, farmer by occupation. Music by the "Add Water and Stir" instrumental group and vocalist Tiina Beaudoin, will add to the service. All are invited to socialize after service. Refreshments will be served in the lower hall. There will be no service at Seagrave on the 29th.
October 31st is “Doors Open” at the front church entrance, for any Halloween trick or treaters who will be treated by Doug Watson and helpers. Be sure to drop by with your goodie bags, children.
November 11th, at 7:30 p.m., Greenbank United Church presents a Remembrance Day Concert by the Gospel men's sextet “Freedom Bound”. An adult donation of $10 is recommended.
Extra voices to sing with the choir Christmas Cantata, “Magnificat” written by Stu Beaudoin, for the Advent 3, December 17th concert, are invited to join rehearsals every Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. for the first part of choir practice.
Jacob Taylor's North Durham select hockey team is still looking for bottles for their bottle drive, which may be dropped off at Taylors. You may also call 905-260-6393 for pick up. Jacob thanks all for support of the 2 week collection.
Happy Birthday, though belated, to Cliff Rodd on October 10th. The Sunderland United Church turkey supper, with plum pudding and pie, is on Wednesday October 25th, at 4:30 p.m. until all are served. The price for adults is $20 at the door.
Seagrave United Church's famous Turkey supper is November 1st with sittings at 4:45; 6:00, and 7:15 p.m. Takeouts will be available. The price for adults is $20.
