March began with 31 ladies attending the Friday, World Day of Prayer service, created by the women of Slovenia, for people to share. Visitors from Cresswell/Wick, Epsom, Sunderland, Seagrave, and native-born Slovenian lady Traucus C., joined Greenbank for this time together.
The Lasagna Dinner on Sunday evening was well supported. It was delicious. Thanks go to the Evening Unit U.C.W., and helpers, for an opportunity to gather as a community as our wintery weather lingers.
Sunderland is hosting a Spaghetti Supper and Loonie Auction at St. Andrews United Church, on Saturday, March 9th. The cost for the supper is $10, and it begins at 6 p.m. The Loonie Auction is at 7 p.m. Come and join the community gathering for food and fun.
March 18th, at 6 p.m., at the Seagrave United Church, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day Supper; dress in green. A free-will offering, or donations of non-perishable items for the Scugog Food Bank, would be appreciated. To reserve a seat contact Jean at (905) 985-9921 no later than March 15th.
March 6th, at 7 p.m. is the Ash Wednesday service for all at the Greenbank Church, as we begin the Lenten Season.
Each Wednesday, through the six weeks of Lent, the Presbyterian Church in Port Perry welcomes all to Lenten lunches, from 11:50 a.m. - 1:50 p.m., which will include a worship time.
Sunday, March 10th, the Guatemala Greenbank/Seagrave Mission Team will take part in both services, and serving communion. The GGS (Guatemala Greenbank/Seagrave) Team is inviting both congregations to come to lunch at the Greenbank church following their 11 a.m. service. (approximately 12 o’clock) Seagrave’s service time is 9:15 a.m.
The Greenbank United Church accessibility committee would like to thank our community and others for their tremendous support, which has enabled us to attain 94% of our $200,000 goal required to make our church fully accessible. On Thursday, March 7th, at 9:30 a.m., the Kawartha Highlands Presbyterial U.C.W. is holding its AGM at St. Andrews United Church, in Sunderland. The theme is “We are one body” with guest speaker, Reverend Ted McCollum from Beaverton, speaking about migrant workers in Durham region. Greenbank’s Stephanie Richmond will guide us in meditation in the afternoon. This is Carla Puckrin's (of Greenbank U.C.W.) final term event as President of K.H.P.U.C.W. (Kawartha Highlands Presbyterial United Church Women) which a huge commitment, and well served. There will be no office hours at the Greenbank church on Thursday, March 7th, but the office hours will resume next week.
Congratulations to the Greenbank Public School choir, with leader Denise Bell, on achieving GOLD at the Sunderland Music Festival, and the opportunity to perform at the Festival of Stars. On the 27th, the children enjoyed a pancake lunch. Basketball has started for Jr. Girls and Jr. Boys with game schedules after the March break from Friday, March 8th to Monday, March 18th .

Transfiguration Sunday began with young Reese Richardson lighting the Christ Candle, and included the choir’s anthem “I Have Called You By Your Name”. The children’s story and sermon message were based on the mountaintop experiences of Moses in the Old Testament, and the times of receiving God’s commandments. It was also about the New Testament story of Peter, James and John witnessing the transfiguration of Jesus.

Kelly Monkman presented U.C.W. pins to Kim Thomson and Joanne Olivero for their faithful service, love, and support as members of the Evening U.C.W. since its inception in 1987. They were presented with a certificate, a Life Membership pin, and flowers. The congregation enjoyed a celebration cake in honour of Kim and Joanne at end of the service, during coffee time.
