Winter has arrived with some chilly temperatures, and definitely our fair share of snow. The school buses were cancelled last Monday and Thursday due to inclement weather.
The Blackstock Agricultural Society held its AGM on Thursday, January 24th, and this year’s directors and officers were elected. Dale VanCamp was honoured as the Past President, In-Memorium. Karen Barkey was elected to be the new President. Courtney Peeters was elected Vice President, and Steven Backs was elected as Homecraft President. Jim Byers, Lawrence McLaughlin, Linda McLaughlin, and John Wolters were elected as the new Honourary Directors. Additional directors and officers are as follows: Denise Aston, Steven Backs, Ann Julia Bajema, Karen Barkey, Jennifer Griffin, Craig Larmer, Sarah Malcolm, Mary Meyer, Courtney Peeters, Barry VanCamp, David VanCamp, and Janet VanCamp.
Cartwright Sports & Recreation is hosting their Annual Comedy Night with a Twist. The show “Comedy Hypnosis with Adam Graeme,” will take place on Friday, February 1st, at the Blackstock Recreation Centre from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The event is for ages 19+ and will include a cash bar. All proceeds will go towards improvements for the Cartwright Fields. Advance tickets are $25, or you can pay $30 at the door, subject to availability. The Fletcher Bonspiel will be held on Saturday, February 2nd, at the Port Perry Curling Club. This is a major fundraiser for the Blackstock Curling Club. There is limited space available for a total of 16 teams. The early draw starts at 8:30 a.m., and the late draw starts at 10:30 a.m. There are two eight-end games. Lunch is included. The Blackstock Drum Circle meets at the Blackstock-Nestleton United Church on the first and third Fridays of the month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is a small group of people, with room for more, that have a passion for drumming. A limited number of drums are available to rent for $5. If you have your own drum, it is $2 for the evening. If you would like to try it out or join in, please call Michelle Adams at (905) 986-4817.
This week's euchre winners are: Gail Crawford finished in first place. Jocelyn Bradbury came in second place, and had the most lone hands. Ellen Gibson came in third place. Wilma VanCamp came in fourth place. Harvey Graham, Barb Blue and Mary Lou Breward tied for fifth place. Blackstock euchre is held every Tuesday evening (except holidays) at 7:30 p.m. in the Blackstock United Church Hall. Everyone is welcome.
