Uxbridge Fire Department holds training exercises from August 18th to 20th

UXBRIDGE: The Uxbridge Fire Department, along with the Fire Services of Brock and Scugog, will be conducting joint live-fire training exercises at the rear of the Uxbridge fire station between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., on Friday, August 18th, Saturday, August 19th, and Sunday, August 20th using the Ontario Fire College’s Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (MLFTU).

During these periods, there may be smoke visible from the rear of the fire station – although this looks alarming, it is part of the normal operation of the training unit. The training unit uses simulated theatrical smoke and propane-fired burners to create realistic structural fire conditions for firefighters to practice firefighting and rescue skills, while maintaining a safe training environment, protecting air quality, and minimizing disruption to the community.

There will also be a short period around lunchtime when the fire trucks will be sounding their air horns – this is part of a procedure for recalling firefighters from a structure in the event of an imminent threat to their lives, and we greatly appreciate the community’s understanding as firefighters practice this important life-saving skill. We apologize for any inconvenience or discomfort these air horns may cause.
