The Artist Within

The Artist Within

LAUREN WALKER, Special to The Standard

Most of you may know my column “Movement for Life”. I am proud to introduce my art column called “The Artist Within”. My thanks to Colleen at the Scugog Standard, who has supported my writing for many years.

I created my own Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/artistwithin86 and a website dedicated to my love of art. I am so excited to share my journey with you.

During a particularly hard time in my life, I found art to be my saving grace. The artist within me truly emerged and I am so grateful it did. I dabbled in art when I was in high-school. Back then I wasn’t too serious about it. It wasn’t until November of 2020 that I picked up the paintbrush and I haven’t put it down since.

I was so excited to win the “Kent Farndale Bursary for the Arts” this year. It has allowed me to take courses at our local Meta 4 Gallery. I completed a “Drawing Nature” course. I highly recommend in person courses for any beginner. I was able to design a website for my artwork as well, you can find it at https://theartist-within.weebly.com. My next goal is to apply to the Kent Farndale Gallery at the library. Who knows? Maybe next year you’ll be visiting my very first show!

My work currently hangs at All Fit All Ages Gym. I am a part of the Port Perry Artist Association and am blessed to know such talented individuals.

It is a dream come true to be able to make and sell my work. The true purpose of sharing my passion is to encourage you to find yours. I believe there is an artist within each and every one of you. I hope my journey inspires you to start your own.

Happy Painting!
