SCUGOG: The Township of Scugog’s Director of Public Works and Infrastructure Services, Carol Coleman, has some advice about how to handle winter conditions.

At a meeting, on Monday, November 27th, she discussed the recent winter conditions, during the announcements portion of the meeting.

“The cold weather is here, and while we have not had any significant snow on the ground yet, Township crews are primed and ready for the winter weather. They were out last Wednesday, to sand the gravel roads when they froze with the colder temperatures, and it will be snowing soon and it will be on the ground.”

Ms. Coleman then provided residents with some winter safety advice.

“During snow and ice events, always check weather and road conditions before heading out, and leave extra time if necessary. Give snow plows plenty of space and never pass a working snow plow. We have way too many stories, from our operators, of people passing unsafely and we don’t want them or you to end up in the ditch or injured.”

She also reminded residents, overnight, on street parking is not allowed. Bylaw officers will ticket cars and have them towed if they violate this rule. As well, she asks residents not to blow snow onto or over roadways.

“We all want to have a safe holiday season,” Ms. Coleman concluded.
