SHIRLEY LOVE
The first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love was believed to be in 1382, honouring the first anniversary of the engagement of fifteen-year old King Richard the 2nd to 15 year old Anne of Bohemia.
February 14th is the name day of two saints, St. Valentine of Rome and St. Valentine of Terri. The middle of February was a time of pagan fertility festivals in Europe and the time when the birds chose a mate.
A proverb says Saint Valentine brings the keys of roots. Plants and flowers start to grow on this day.
If you are going to purchase a plant or flowers please ensure they are wrapped to protect them from the cold and don’t leave them in an unheated car. If you received fresh flowers, re-cut the stems in different lengths under cool water adding a preservative to the water.
If you received a potted plant with variegated leaves or a flowering plant give them more bright light. Most green plants are quite happy with a bright light from a lamp. Ensure the soil is quite dry before watering.
