The Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) is pleased to offer a scholarship program, to provide financial assistance for students within the province who are enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or undergraduate degree program. It is the intention of the OAAS to award up to 4 (four) $2,000 scholarships annually.
The following is a list of the requirements for those wishing to apply for the scholarship:
The applicant must be enrolled in their second year or later as an undergraduate student, registered in a minimum two-year program at an Ontario post-secondary institution, and provide proof of enrollment (letter of acceptance if entering post-secondary or timetable for upcoming semester if currently attending post-secondary).
The applicant must be under the age of 30 years old at the time of application. He or she must be endorsed by their local Agricultural Society. Local Agricultural Societies in our area are the Port Perry Agricultural Society, the Uxbridge Agricultural Society and the Lindsay Agricultural Society.
The applicant must be involved in school and/or community activities. i.e., 4-H member, school sports/band/clubs, hockey/soccer teams, volunteer within their Agricultural Society and volunteers and/or is involved in their school and/or community. Part-time students are eligible for this scholarship.
A 500-word essay must be written by the student on their future plans for contributing as a volunteer within their current or future community.
He or she must provide two Letters of Recommendation from two different individuals who know the applicant well, excluding family members. This letter should highlight the skills and abilities which demonstrate the applicant is best qualified for this scholarship. These letters are required in order to be eligible for the scholarship. The Letters of Recommendation can come from an Agricultural Society board member or volunteer, from someone in the community/school or past/current employer.
An unofficial transcript must be submitted with the application from the most current completed year.
An Agricultural Society can endorse more than one applicant and is encouraged to do so, if there is more than one qualified applicant.
Scholarship recipients will be announced and awarded in Autumn 2022, and a recent photo must be submitted at that time.
