JANICE NICHOLLS, The Standard
Summertime is here, and I’m just reminding people about water safety while you’re out on the water.
As some of you may know, I’m an avid kayaker. I kayak a lot and have been doing so for eight years.
By law, you are required to have, as a minimum, the following:
a Canadian-approved personal floatation device (pfd)
a bailer/pump
a pealess whistle/horn
a 25-foot heaving line
a working flashlight
Other additional equipment, which is helpful, is a paddle float and a light (required by law after dusk).
Always check the weather continuously before venturing out.
Happy Paddling.
