Dear Editor

Thank you for your support of the Port Perry Walk for Dog Guides. This year we raised $23,102 and are in the top 5 percent of the 300+ walks across Canada. Thank you. Thank you.

Once again we have been invited to participate in the Port Perry Santa Claus Parade. This year the floats stay still in the fairgrounds and the people walk around. As there are space limitations for floats, we have decided to volunteer with the Lions.

We are looking for volunteers and their dogs for the 2021 Port Perry Santa Claus parade Saturday, December 4th, from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Please let us know if you and your dog can make it by the end of Monday, as we are ordering reflective vests for the dogs. Please share your dog breed and approximate weight so we can size the vest.

Some of you remember the awesome time we had in the 2019 Santa Claus parade, walking down from the fairgrounds into beautiful downtown Port Perry with all those people lining the streets. This will be just as wonderful. It is also a great way for high school students to get those volunteer hours !

This year the floats stay still in the fairgrounds and the people walk around, socially distanced. We will be part of the volunteer troupe, guiding people to; keep moving, stay socially distant, keep everyone a safe distance from floats and decorated trees, and move in one direction only. We will be handing our bandanas to other dogs!

They are asking volunteers to gather at 2:30 p.m., as there will be a drive-through from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., for those who have mobility issues, then this changes to a walk through from 5 to 8 p.m. Total volunteer time would be until 9 p.m. at the latest, but we can split shifts as needed. Scott and Pam from Pet Valu have donated grab bags for the volunteers. Pizza will be served at 4:30 p.m. Water is available for the dogs.
