Change makes change

If you’re doing the same exercise routine from five years ago, it’s definitely time to change your program! That’s the thing about a routine; when it becomes “routine,” then you’re not going to see many results. As my mom would say, “Change makes change.”

Your body only adapts to what you present it with. If you have a particular goal in mind, this will dictate your exercise program. For example: if you’re an avid walker and walk three miles everyday, your body gets used to it. It also doesn’t stimulate muscle development. I encourage avid walkers to complement what they do, with a strength training program. Developing muscle mass helps to strengthen your core and therefore allows you to walk even further. The stronger your hips, the further you can go. It’s a win-win!

Look at your exercise program. If you’ve been doing it for more than three months, it’s time for a change. Your body needs stimulation, if you want to see any strength development.

If you’re stuck mentally and physically, and you’re not noticing any changes, this is a clear indication. Quite frankly, if your exercise routine is boring, then you’re probably not going to stick to it. The biggest problem I see is that people lose interest in exercise. Why? A lack of goal setting and a lack of knowledge. If you don’t know where you’re going, how do you get there?

My suggestion is this: If your exercise routine has become too routine, try something new. It’ll only benefit you in the long run because it’ll keep you motivated.

Exercise should move you forward, so if you’re a little stuck, make a change.
