As someone just said, "and so it begins," there are notices going into newspapers expressing that the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is being petitioned by the natural gas suppliers, asking for the OEB to allow the gas companies to increase the price of gas to cover the new "carbon tax/cap and trade" costs.
Are we surprised – NO, and it's not their fault – this rests with government over-taxation. The ad states:
"Under the Government of Ontario's new greenhouse gas emissions regulation each of Engridge Gas Distribution Inc., Union Gas Limited and Natural Resource Gas Limited are required to develop plans to meet their cap and trade compliance obligations."
If one goes to the Ontario Energy Board Act, one will see that the mandate of the OEB is, under "gas":
"2.The Board, in carrying out its responsibilities under this or any other Act in relation to gas, shall be guided by the following objectives:
1. To facilitate competition in the sale of gas to users.
2. To protect the interests of consumers with respect to prices and the reliability and quality of gas service.
3. To facilitate rational expansion of transmission and distribution systems.
4. To facilitate rational development and safe operation of gas storage.
5. To promote energy conservation and energy efficiency in accordance with the policies of the Government of Ontario, including having regard to the consumer’s economic circumstances.
5.1 To facilitate the maintenance of a financially viable gas industry for the transmission, distribution and storage of gas..."
Do you see the contradictions in their mandate? First; it says protect the consumer, and then; it says to facilitate the financial viability of the gas industry, and also to price it to force people to conserve. Which is it?
And we can't forget that it is going to cost hundreds of millions more for the infrastructure, for the gas to be piped to the replacement power plant (replace cancelled gas-plants) in Napanee.
Government also continues to promote the non-use of fossil fuels. Why would they promote the use of natural gas, sure it burns cleaner, but it is still a non-renewable energy source?
If government is SO concerned about greenhouse gases, perhaps they should be paying the farming and forest industry for the rental of their crops, because it's the crops in the farm fields and trees-n-grass, planted and maintained by everyone else, that remove these gases from the atmosphere, isn't it?
It's all parties that want to tax you off your property, so why are we letting them? It's time for real change, find an Independent and let's get our rights and money back where it belongs…with the people.
