SCUGOG: One of North Durham’s most celebrated and unique shopping destinations, Coach House Studio, will soon be opening its most recent expansion.
The former Utica General Store building, located on Regional Road 21 at the Marsh Hill Rd. intersection, has housed the works of more than 40 local vendors consisting of artisans, craft-makers, antique dealers and new product suppliers for nearly two years. Interior stylist and owner of Coach House Studio, Laura Gray, is ready to give more options to those who are searching for gifts, decor, furniture and other unique finds.
On Wednesday, April 1, Coach House Studio will celebrate the opening of a new heated and insulated barn area, which will allow space for even more vendors, with new and exciting products – including larger furniture pieces arriving later in the month.
When The Standard asked Ms. Gray what was her motivation for opening up Coach House Studio, she explained that she “Wanted to provide a back drop and sales space for unique artisans, craftspeople and vendors. Coach House offers a unique experience to our shoppers, and supports our local artisans – it’s a win-win business, with many one-of-a-kind and unique items.”
The barn space will offer a new display site for larger items, featuring one line of local repurposed and vintage furniture.
“Throughout the store, you can enjoy the experience of shopping in different themed vignettes, “said Ms. Gray. “We really have something to offer everyone, from antiques to vintage finds, original art to new home décor, iron, even fashion items and accessories.”
Coach House Studio encourages the local arts community by offering a variety of classes in such things milk painting, floor cloths, felting and more. The team is even able to take custom orders for window, bedding and upholstery needs as well as offering a custom North American-made line of reproduction lighting.
Ms. Gray says that new items arrive in-store all the time, and are being continuously produced or brought in by her vendors – “if it’s not here today, there’s a good chance we will have it tomorrow!”
