KAWARTHA LAKES: People will have a chance to meet a multitude of local artists when the Victoria County Studio Tour returns this weekend.
There are 24 studio locations on this year’s tour, and people will have a chance to meet 33 artists. This is the largest number of artists the tour has had. Six of the tour stops will feature multiple artists.
The tour will be held on Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th, as well as on Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Each studio stop is offering a ballot to fill out, for a chance to win a $200 gift certificate.
Studio Tour chair Janet Tysiak explained why she thinks people should come out and take part in the tour.
“You can go to a store and buy whatever you want, but when you get the story from the artist, where the inspiration came from and how much work went into it, you appreciate what you are buying, knowing there was heart and soul put into it,” she said. “For visitors and up and coming artists, they get inspired by going to these shows. When they see the process and the amount of work that goes into it, there is a real appreciation of it.”
Ms. Tysiak estimated that close to 1200 people visited the studios at last year’s tour.
She also said there is a “real camaraderie” between the artists, and added there is a “really nice eclectic mix of art” on the tour.
The tour map can be picked up at the libraries and a variety of businesses in the community, or can be seen online, at victoriacountystudiotour.com.
