SCUGOG: The Township of Scugog has reached a new agreement with the Township of Uxbridge for fire protection services in a portion of the township.
At a meeting, on Monday, November 27th, Councillors voted to authorize the mayor and clerk to sign a new five year deal with Uxbridge, to provide fire service in the north-west corner of the Township.
The deal will see Scugog pay Uxbridge a retainer fee of $30,000, starting in 2018. Future increases will be decided by the Consumer Price Index.
According to a report from Fire Chief Mark Berney, Scugog will also “pay the Township of Uxbridge, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation remuneration rate, for responses and firefighters’ wages.”
The agreement had already been approved by Uxbridge council on Monday, November 13th.
According to Chief Berney’s report, the two townships have signed similar agreements since 1975.
“[The agreement is] very fair for both communities,” Chief Berney told councillors at the meeting.
