SCUGOG: Regional Chairman Roger Anderson updated members of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce on Regional Council’s initiatives, at a luncheon on Thursday, June 29th.
Among the topics discussed, at the luncheon held at the Blackstock Recreation Complex, was the region’s commitment to transparency.
“In the past year, Durham has made substantial progress on many priorities set out in the Regional strategic plan. Increasing our accountability, our transparency was a key focus to last year’s work,” Mr. Anderson said. “Last fall, Regional council approved changes to the composition of Regional council, to better reflect the current population. Council’s code of conduct and closed meeting protocol are now in place. We also appointed an ombudsman and an integrity commissioner.”
Mr. Anderson also spoke about the region’s online accomplishments.
“In 2016, the use of regional social media increased by 53 per cent,” he said. “The region’s website is being completely revamped and modernized as we speak.”
In addition, the Regional Chairman stressed the importance of proper building and upkeep of the region’s infrastructure.
“It’s vital that we protect our infrastructure, and more importantly our facilities,” Mr. Anderson said.
