The Rotary Club of Port Perry's inaugural Waterfront Ribfest event was held July 29th, 30th and 31st, 2016 and was a huge success. The event was attended by over 21,000 people. On Saturday, over 9,700 people came through the gates!
“We enjoyed great weather, superb food, great bands and awesome volunteer support – what more could you ask for?”, stated Rotary president, Jim Brady. Mr. Brady noted some highlights from the event, including performances by the James Barker Band and Dan Clancy Band; the official opening by the Town Crier and the 'Best Ribs and Sauce' awards!
Rotary has pledged $100,000 toward the current Port Perry Hospital renovations, and proceeds from the event allowed the Club to present the final $25,000 installment to Dr. John Stewart. A cheque of $8,342.50 was also presented to the Hospital Auxillary. The inaugural Ribfest generated about $35,000 in net proceeds.
President Brady explained, “In addition to all the hard work and planning by Rotarians, I think the biggest reasons the event was so successful, was the support from our sponsors, participation from over 170 volunteers and the support received from Scugog Township Council and staff. It is this type of community partnership that allowed all of us, to pull this off.”
