Last week we at the Standard had the privilege of meeting with Ray and Ruby Zinsmeister, owner and operators of R&R Restorations and Renovations Ltd. Locally located right here in Port Perry, this amazing couple demonstrated the courage to take life changing risks, to make their dream a reality.
Ray, by trade a talented and skilled cabinetmaker, while working for large commercial companies like the Bay, Sears and Eatons, had him traveling across Canada. To many, it would appear that Ray must be living “the dream”, in reality with the constant traveling while working for other people, he had come to realize he had more to offer.
While on an annual family camping trip, Ray and Ruby took this opportunity to reassess their life’s passion of helping others, they soon realized a major change in their lives was needed in order to bring this rising vision to reality.
With Ruby's support and encouragement within 30 days Ray resigned from his job, they sold their home and took a leap of faith to start their own business. Ray and Ruby made up flyers and started hand distributing them to promote their new found business. This, along with word of mouth from Ray’s former contacts in the business, began to bring in clients.
Ray's vision, to create beautiful finished carpentry, using environmentally friendly water based products, has been a reality for four years now. His desire, to treat each customer as he would like to be treated, and to take pride in a job well done, is a great fit for people who appreciate conscientious workmanship.
Starting at their new home in Little Britain, Ray who specialized in renovations, expanded his business portfolio to include replacing exterior columns, railings, balconies. Soon the business out grew their garage at home and the need for a larger shop was essential for their continued success. This need for a larger shop brought R&R to Port Perry. Being that quality is what R&R is all about, it is only natural that Ray insists on hiring the best craftsman and labour that possess the same passion and integrity as he does.
Thanks to word of mouth about R&R's great quality and service, their business has continued to increase over the past 16 years. This year they relocated to their new shop at 182 North Port Road to accommodate even more space, needed to meet the demand and constant flow of new and returning clients.
The R&R name is well established in the towns of Brooklin, Whitby, Ajax, Uxbridge, Stouffville and Markham, and now the word is spreading into Port Perry.
With business booming, Ray felt the need to bring aboard someone to share the expanding work load. He knew that for R&R to continue to be successful, he needed a full time team member who shared his enthusiasm, drive and vision.
Little did Ray realize that pulling into a laneway to turn around would actually prompt a business conversation with property owner James Zinner. Ray began the conversation by expressing his vision for the future of R&R, James, a business owner himself, fully understood and shared in Ray’s vision and work ethic. This spontaneous meeting had opened the door for Ray to offer James a position within the R&R family. Today Ray and James work together sharing in the decision-making process, hiring staff, estimating and project management.
James has been a natural fit and is an important part of the R&R team. While James focuses on renovations, additions and complete custom home builds, Ray now has more time to focus on the increasing demand for replacing columns, railings and balconies. This dynamic duo is balanced by Ruby, whose organizational skills keep everything working smoothly.
R&R is always looking for committed skilled craftsmen and labourers, who take pride in their work. Quality people, who share the vision of treating each customer with care and respect.
So if you have a 'Honey-do' list, large or small, I highly recommend you call R&R today. For those who appreciate true quality!
