President & CEO Lakeridge Health
As shared in mid-December, the renovation and restoration of Port Perry Hospital will be complete by early July, with the first patients being served at the hospital the first week of September. Over the past month, we have continued work on site and are on track to fully reopen the hospital in September.
Crews are focused on mechanical room upgrades, which will ensure the room is better protected.
Prior to the fire, all of the hospital’s systems: mechanical, electrical and environmental, were located in one area, which was heavily damaged during the fire. As part of the restoration, these systems are now located separately in their own protected spaces.
A critical part of the building system upgrade is the construction of a new, safer, more secure, state-of-the-art electrical system. The electrical room’s roof decking is now complete, which includes the trusses, joists, insulation and weather proofing material.
Over the next few weeks, the new roof in the electrical room will be fully in place while two brand new generators will arrive, so we can begin to install this sophisticated system. These new generators are designed to maintain power access throughout the hospital, even in the event of a major power outage.
Lakeridge Health is making a number of safety enhancements, renovating various areas of the hospital to improve the patient experience, and improving the hospital systems which support electrical, mechanical and environmental systems.
In partnership with the Port Perry Hospital Foundation, there are also a number of changes underway that will enhance the experience of patients, families and our teams that work here at Port Perry Hospital.
Over the coming weeks, we will release videos featuring different upgrades and enhancements, which will make our hospital an even better and safer environment to deliver care to patients and families.
We want to thank residents, community members, patients and staff for their continued patience and support throughout the temporary closure of Port Perry Hospital. We are excited about the future and look forward to re-opening the hospital the first week in September.
