SCUGOG: An Oshawa man sustained multiple, serious injuries after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Port Perry on Wednesday, Aug. 10.
According to police, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a silver Honda sedan was exiting a parking lot on the west side of Simcoe St. to travel southbound. The lights at Vanedward Dr. turned green and a motorcycle accelerated quickly from behind a truck, travelling southbound. The motorcycle collided with the rear end of the Honda, which had accelerated eastbound across the roadway to avoid the collision.
The force of the collision threw the motorcyclist several metres. He was rushed by ambulance to Lakeridge Health Port Perry suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries, including multiple broken bones and a concussion. The driver of the sedan reported minor physical injuries.
The motorcycle was leaking gas after the collision, which was cleaned up by Scugog Township Fire Services. The roadway was closed for a short period of time to process the scene.
The 33-year-old Oshawa motorcyclist was charged with careless driving. The driver of the Honda was not charged.
