I know I cannot change everything at one time, nor would I take on such a huge task.
I do know I can pursue God in faithfulness, and perhaps with a few new habits, which can or will have a domino effect in my life and the lives of others!!
Let me explain - I do not believe in making new years resolutions, but I do believe in faithfulness to serve God with Joy and to delight in His will. I stumble and fall on a daily basis. It's time we all step off the treadmill.
I was excited to learn my Church is having a one year corporate Bible study. Let's face it, society is told what to think, how to feel, what to do, what to eat, what to wear, what to read, even what we should watch on television! It's information overload!!
As a Christian, I understand that the things of this world, such as wars, famine, poverty and suffering impact both Christians and non-Christians alike. As a Christian, I understand the scripture in John 18:36, where Jesus says that His kingdom is “not of this world”. Yes, we are on earth, a cracked and broken place, but our earthly lives are nothing but a vapour!! The articles, blogs, and posts, will be, for the most part, a waste of time, and time is a precious commodity, we all desire more of.
I read once, "Reading is not a quantity contest. It is an issue of soul nourishment". We should all read to: gain wisdom and understanding; to strengthen our faith; increase hope and joy and develop our longing and love for God.
What better place than the Bible? Every individual within it is a rich, complex living story that comes to life. God has given them for us to study and know.
Have you ever read a person? My seniors are amazing individuals, who have a life full of rich experiences countered with some regret. My Mother would say, "Don’t look back at what you’ve done, start a new page and enjoy the thought of what is possible!". She was/is my biggest fan and dementia can never take that away.
So, no matter what your age, you can and will achieve success, as you apply yourself. Use your time in the richest and in the most interesting ways possible. Know that every day contains new and different possibilities.
So, I will be a doer, not merely a hearer of the word, when remembering the commandants of Jesus. No one just wanders into obedience!!
