SCUGOG: The martial arts business held their grand opening at their location at 27 Easy St., on Wednesday, Feb. 15th.
Kalsamrit offers kids classes, such as, Kids Muay Thai, Kids Boxing, and Kids Jiu Jitsu, as well as adult programs, such as, Ladies Kickboxing, Adult Mauy Thai and Brazilian Jui Jitsu.
Kalsamrit is also located in Bowmanville at 182 Wellington St. They decided to expand to Port Perry to make it more convenient for their clients.
“We found, we had a lot of members from north Oshawa, Caesarea, Uxbridge and surrounding areas[, and] that Bowmanville was just a little too far,” said head instructor Brendan Kalijundic. “So after operating in Bowmanville for five years, we decided to start a second location in Port Perry, so clients out this area will have a place to train. Members can now have two places to train at.”
Mr. Kalijundic also spoke about what he enjoys most about being an instructor.
"I enjoy seeing people achieve their goals, losing weight, gaining confidence through martial arts and I like training fighters as well. It's something I'm passionate about, I love training martial arts. I've been to Thailand four times, so I love bringing a bit of that culture back to the community,” he said.
Kalsamrit encourages people of all skill levels to try out one of their classes.
“We recommend people come in here with no experience. I want people that know nothing about martial arts so that we can teach them everything, so we can teach them from the beginning,”
Mr. Kalijundic said. “ I want them to come in, not in the best shape, so we can motivate them, set goals and see them achieve weight loss and all of that kind of success through martial arts training. We are going to be offering a free week trial, so members who want to try the Port Perry gym can try it for a week, without any obligations to sign up.”
