SCUGOG: The newly elected Scugog council will be sworn on Monday, December 3rd, at the inaugural council meeting.
The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m., and will be held at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre (SCRC), located at 1655 Reach St. in Port Perry.
In an email statement, Mayor-Elect Bobbie Drew explained why that location was chosen.
“The SCRC allows for more people, like friends and family, to attend. As well, it was held in Blackstock last time, so it was fitting to have it at the SCRC this time,” she shared.
Jonathan van Bilsen will be the master of ceremonies for the event. Mr. van Bilsen will also be accompanied by piper Brian Richardson.
Every elected member will recite the declaration of office and oath of allegiance, starting with the mayor, then the Regional Councillor, and then the Ward councillors in order of their ward number.
Following that, there will be closing remarks.
Scugog clerk J.P. Newman explained, in an email, how council-elect have been preparing for the new term of office.
“Council-elect have participated in Council Orientation sessions, including department overviews, corporate procedures and policies as well as a guided tour of the municipality.”
