SCUGOG: Council has decided to increase ice rental rates for user groups, at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre.
The decision was made at a meeting on Monday, April 24th. Council previously discussed the matter, at a meeting on Monday, April 3rd, however, at that time, they decided to defer it.
Rental fees for minor hockey groups will rise to $174 per hour, from $146.40, and fees for user groups, such as the Port Perry MoJacks and the Port Perry Skating Club, will rise to $157.84.
Last year, the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association and the Uxbridge Minor Hockey Association both voted to amalgamate, to create the North Durham Minor Hockey Association.
Ward 3 Councillor, Don Kett hoped to have Scugog’s minor hockey ice rates match Uxbridge’s. He made a motion to increase the 2017 rate to $209.
“Although I support the tax dollars going to our local communities, I don’t support minor hockey getting a different rate than what’s charged in Uxbridge,” Councillor Kett said.
The Ward 3 Councillor also said, Uxbridge would benefit more if Scugog didn’t match Uxbridge’s rates. However, he could not find a seconder for his motion, and council later approved the recommendation presented to them to raise the minor hockey rate to $174.
