Art lovers from all over North Durham are supporting the arts community by attending an evening filled with fine art, gourmet food, and live entertainment. The Scugog Council for the Arts is holding their 8th Annual Gala for the Arts, on October 19th, at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre. The event connects art lovers, from all over Scugog, and brings them to one place for a night, to celebrate local artwork.
The Gala is most commonly known as “The Mayors Gala for the Arts”, but this year it has been rebranded, to make the event solely about art. The theme for this year’s gala is “Feast for the Senses,” all the entertainment and activities at the Gala are structured around using the five senses. The evening will feature live music, fine artwork, and an interactive dinner, hosted by Harp and Wylie’s.
In addition, there will be a live, and silent, auction, filled with fantastic prizes, donated by members of the community, who want to support the Scugog Council of the Arts. “The silent and live auction items all come from the community, from donors right across Port Perry. They support us in every way, and we are so lucky to be in an arts community that is so vibrant,” Robin said.
The Scugog Council for the Arts was first established in 2005, and is a not-for-profit organization, made up of volunteers, who want to strengthen and grow the art scene in Port Perry. Without the funds raised from the gala, the Scugog Council for the Arts would not have enough money to remain active in the community, according to Robin. “Without this event we would be very challenged to find the funding to continue to do the work that we do,” she said.
The event has been made possible through the generous support of many sponsors. Most notably, The Mississauga’s of Scugog First Nation, Vos Independent, and Canadian Tire, support the Gala, year after year.
The event takes place on October 19th, in the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, on 1655 Reach Street, Port Perry, starting at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $125 each and are available online at www.scugogarts.ca or can be purchased over the phone by calling 905-982-2121.
“Come out and have a blast at what is arguably the most social event of the fall here in Port Perry,” Robin said.
