NORTH DURHAM: A business workshop scheduled for this week will connect local business with increased opportunities for cycling-based tourism.
Durham Tourism, in partnership with the Ontario By Bike Network and Central Counties Tourism will be hosting a free workshop on Thursday, April 28, from 9am to 11am at the Abilities Centre, 55 Gordon St., in Whitby.
Cycling is one of the area's most popular attractions, with visitors flocking to local trails and roads from spring until summer presenting a unique tourism opportunity for local municipalities. The two-hour workshop will provide information to local merchants about growing business opportunities by welcoming cyclists to their location.
Attendees will learn about the Ontario By Bike Certification Program, as well as what's new in cycling and cycle tourism in Ontario and Durham Region, which includes routes, projects and events. The workshop will also explore how businesses, even those that are already bicycle friendly, can build partnerships and elevate their offerings to this growing market.
