Recently I went backwoods camping with my family. Backwoods camping is when you camp deep into the woods, instead of near other campers at a camp ground close to roads and amenities.
Our campsite was a two hour hike from the registration office. We all new it was two hours, but none of us were prepared for how difficult a two hour hike, carrying camping gear, could be!
After carrying a 100 to 120 pound bag on my back, for two hours, I was pretty exhausted when we got to the camp. But the hiking wasn't done yet! We planned to take multiple trips, to keep down the amount of weight to carry on each trip. What we hadn't planned for, was night fall coming, mid trip back for another load, while the others remained to set up camp.
My sisters and I hiked in the dark back to our vehicle, originally to get more luggage, but then simply found ourselves hoping to get out of the woods. We only got lost once, but we weren't truly lost, because God knew right where we were. We stopped, calmly sat on a log and prayed. Within minutes God showed us the way along a branch of the trail and before long we were out of the woods.
Sometimes, life can be that simple. We can find ourselves feeling lost in a metaphorical forest. Perhaps we can't find the way out of doubt, or fear, or a confusing life circumstance. While we may feel lost, we're not lost to the one who sees all of time and space at once, God.
Whatever dark forest you find yourself in, in your life, know that you're not lost, God knows where you are. All you have to do, is ask for Him to come into your life and to show you the Way. Whether you've lost sight of the path, or are walking strong on it now, I hope you'll ask Him to be your guiding light.
